Wendy’s Returns to Cork
US fast food chain Wendy’s is to return to Cork after an absence of three decades.
Local merchants Woodford Bourne hosted a Wendy’s in its store on Patrick Street in the 1980s, and it traded there for more than a decade.
Now, service station and energy company Corrib Oil is opening a Wendy's fast food restaurant in Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork in October. The opening of the new restaurant will create 50 jobs.
Corrib Oil was announced last year as Wendy's franchise partner in Ireland. Founded in 1987, Corrib Oil currently operates 40 convenience stores with forecourts and 20 fuel depots across 17 counties.
The company said the partnership with Wendy's is a key part of its broader expansion strategy in Ireland, which aims to more than double its national footprint to 100 locations by 2030 and continue to grow its home heating distribution and fuel card business.
As part of its commitment to the Irish market, Wendy's will use 100% fresh Irish beef and chicken across its menu.
"Opening the first restaurant in Mahon Point marks a major milestone in our partnership with Wendy's," said Michael Dalton, Managing Director of Corrib Brands.
Michael Clarke, Managing Director - Europe at The Wendy’s Company, said that Ireland is a great market for long-term growth.
