Tourism Ireland Cancels ‘Greening’ Announcement

Tourism Ireland has cancelled a scheduled unveiling of its 2022 Global Greening initiative, due to the unfolding event in Ukraine. The event was due to take place today, Monday 28 February. Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, were scheduled to announce plans for Tourism Ireland’s global St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

This year’s St Patrick’s Day activity is part of Tourism Ireland’s biggest ever programme of promotions to restart overseas tourism to the island of Ireland. The €80+ million global programme for 2022 – which is the biggest ever annual overseas tourism marketing expenditure – is delivering a very clear ‘book now’ message, aiming to single-mindedly drive visitor numbers and the intention to book a trip to Ireland this year.

Details were to be announced about some of the iconic landmarks and buildings around the world that will go green as part of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening 2022 initiative – including some new additions for this year.
