‘Smart’ Award for Event Students

A group of BA in Event Management students from  Munster Technological University, Tralee, won gold at the Smarter Travel Student Awards. Their innovative project "Game On: Battle of the Colleges" won first prize in the Social Marketing: Programmes and Advocacy category.

The winning team - Brenda Giblin, Kelly O’Flaherty, Jayden Kelleher and Sophie Griffin - developed a project that encourages students to walk to campus, promoting both sustainability and a healthier lifestyle. The judges were impressed by the project's creativity, clear messaging and well-executed marketing strategy.

Additionally, Bachelor of Business (Marketing) student Solenn Cormery was awarded second prize in the video category for her cycling project "Hello Pedlo". This initiative encourages cycling as an eco-friendly travel model to and from campus. A special recognition award was presented to the students' lecturer, Sheila O’Mahony, for supporting and guiding students with their projects.

Commenting on the awards, Mary Rose Stafford, Head of School of Business, Computing and Humanities, said:

"MTU’s win at these awards is a testament to the hard work and innovation of our students and staff. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to more initiatives that contribute to a greener campus."
