Shelbourne To Upgrade Guestrooms

In late October 2025, the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin will begin an extensive year-long refurbishment of its guestrooms, designed to preserve its timeless elegance "while subtly evolving the experience for a new era".

Commissioned by Archer Hotel Capital B.V., owners of The Shelbourne since 2024, the transformation will be led by internationally renowned interior designer Bryan O’Sullivan and his studio. The project represents an investment in excess of €50 million and will see 226 guestrooms, specifically the Queen, Deluxe and Heritage Premium categories, undergo a detailed refresh.

"The Shelbourne is a historically important building — not just for Dublin, but for Ireland," says Bryan O’Sullivan, who grew up in Kenmare and has designed interiors for some of the world’s most distinguished addresses, including Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley in London. "From the beginning, we have approached this project with an aspiration to honour the legacy of the building and to craft a guest experience that feels authentic, timeless and grounded in place."

While much of the furniture and lighting will be newly designed by Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, existing pieces will be retained.

As with all BOSS projects, the design will be personal and local in flavour, drawing inspiration from Irish artists and institutions. New custom-designed carpets reference the work of artist Louis le Brocquy, while a collaboration with Dublin’s Kerlin Gallery is being explored to source contemporary Irish artworks.

"It has been a privilege to escort this great lady through her two hundredth year," says JP Kavanagh, general manager of The Shelbourne.
