
Sam Wins Olympic Gold
TU Dublin Culinary Arts student Sam Hutzler won a gold medal and trophy for overall “Young Chef Ambassador” at the World Young Chef Olympiad held in India.
Student chefs from 59 countries competed in this international competition which was run over a five-day period, taking place in five of India’s major cities including New Delhi, Bangalore, Pune Goa and Kolkata. Sam said that it was “a massive honour to be awarded trophies and medals at such a high level”.
Sam was awarded Overall Young Chef Ambassador, which truly encapsulates his nature, and he thanked the support system of his mentor George Smith, fellow students and friends for being able to "experience the trip of a lifetime where I made many new friends with fellow young chefs from around the world”.
Dr Denise O’Leary (Head of School, Culinary Arts & Food Technology, TU Dublin) congratulated Sam saying: “We are incredibly proud of Sam's achievements. His hard work and passion has paid off, and I look forward to following his continued success in the culinary world.”
Sam’s mentor George Smith (Lecturer, Culinary Arts, TU Dublin) said: “Participating in these international competitions are a great achievement for young students to show their commitment and dedication to their profession and show the rest of the world that Irish chefs can compete at such a level and come out with top awards.”
