Restaurant Donates 120,000 Meals
Zambrero, the Mexican-inspired restaurant franchise, is on a mission to help end world hunger with a global goal to donate 100 million meals by 2025 through its Plate4plate initiative along with charity distribution partner Rise To Hunger.
With 26 locations across the country, Zambrero Ireland, with the help of sports ambassadors Rugby Sevens star Terry Kennedy and Olympic sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley (pictured), is rallying the community and asking volunteers to register at zambrero.ie and help pack up to 120,000 meals on Saturday, 5th October at St. Mary’s College in Rathmines, Dublin.
Sharlene Mawdsley, the Irish Olympic sprinter, said:
“I’m really looking forward to working alongside the volunteers to get a record number of meals packed and ready to be distributed to those in need. It is especially poignant around this time as we mark World Food Day and is a testament to the positive impact that teamwork and community spirit can have.”
Terry Kennedy pledged his support for the initiative, saying:
“I am a long-time fan of Zambrero as a restaurant, and I admire the goal of feeding people in need through the Plate4plate campaign. It is a privilege to be part of this, and I’m really looking forward to getting my sleeves rolled up and getting to work.”
The goal for the campaign this year is for over 500 students from St. Mary's College and 200 volunteers from the community to pack 120,000 meals, bringing the global figure close to 83 million and well on the way to the 100 million goal for the brand.
It is the culmination of a year of donations by Zambrero in Ireland and around the world, as it pledges a meal to someone in need with every burrito or bowl purchased. To strengthen its pledge further this year, for all burritos and bowls sold on Saturday, 5th October, Zambrero will double its donation so one meal sold; two meals donated.
Darragh Fanning, general manager of Zambrero Ireland, said: "This is our third year of the initiative, and we have received such strong support from our community of customers and partners that our sights are set for even bigger numbers of meals in 2024.”
