Patrick’s ‘After Dark’ Focus
While traditional daytime parades and outdoor events will continue to be the main feature of the St. Patrick’s Festival, there is a major focus this year on “After Dark” celebrations.
Dublin City Council’s Night-Time Economy Advisor, in association with St. Patrick’s Festival Dublin, has launched “St. Patrick’s After Dark”, a late-night programme showcasing electronic music and club culture across five Dublin venues.
St. Patrick’s After Dark spans three nights and five venues: Index, Pygmalion, Wigwam, The Complex, and The Sound House. The line-up features international performers like Patrick Mason, DJ Tennis (pictured), and Gerd Janson, alongside local favourites such as Sharpson, Colin Perkins, Ping Pong Girls, and Slither.
Meanwhile, Cork’s coffee houses are once again going to keep their doors open into the evening with another “Coffee House Lates”. Eleven independent cafés will open late for a range of free events on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15.
With everything from coffee tasting to live music, comedy, art, and tarot reading, “Coffee House Lates” is once again turning participating businesses into hubs of creativity and connection after dark.
In Dublin, Free Now taxi passengers will have the chance to enjoy live trad music over the St Patrick’s Day weekend. The app will be turning taxis into mobile trad music venues. Unsuspecting passengers will be surprised with a live trad music performance in their taxi as they travel around Dublin.
Trad musician Aoife Kelly said: “I am very excited to play some tunes on the move with Free Now, it's going to be a great few days of craic and ceoil.”
Bray is also extending its celebrations into the evenings with a Trad Concert, pub gigs, and an Opera Gala in the Mermaid Arts Centre presented by Bray Lions Club.
