Mary Bowe Obituary
Mary Bowe (née Murphy) of Marlfield House, Gorey, Co. Wexford, who died on 13th September, was a pioneer of the Irish country house hotel.
A graduate of Shannon School of Hotel Management, she built her career through management posts in leading Irish and UK hotels prior to establishing Marlfield House Hotel in a former dower house in the 1980s.
Marlfield House became renowned for its decor, its gardens, its hospitality and service with the focus on environmentally sustainable practices.
A hotelier with a keen eye for detail and high standards, Mary won numerous awards both personally and for Marlfield House.
A Fellow of the Irish Hospitality Institute and a member of The Blue Book, she was one of the true professionals in the Irish hospitality industry.
She died peacefully in Wexford General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Adored wife of her late husband Ray Bowe and devoted mother of Margaret and Laura. Predeceased by her parents Larry and Marjorie and her brothers Tommy, Ted and Lal. Deeply regretted by her heartbroken daughters, her adored grandchildren Beau, Hannah and Ava, her son-in-law Brian Dowley, Brian Willis, sister Ann (Barragry), brothers Monsignor Jimmy Murphy and Sean Murphy, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and her wonderful carers Adrienne Dunne, Liz Keogh and Kathleen Redmond. Mary lived a very happy and productive personal and professional life and was highly regarded in the Irish hospitality industry.

Mary will be reposing at Marlfield House (eircode Y25DK23) on Monday, 16th September, from 3.00pm to 6.00pm. Removal will take place from Marlfield House on Tuesday, 17th September (today), at 11.30am to St. Michael's Church, Gorey, for Funeral Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, Gorey.
