09 Vintages Bear Promise

It is most unlikely that anybody in Ireland (apart from rugby fans), will remember 2009 as a ‘great’ or even ‘good’ year. It was in many ways a ‘year to forget’ in terms of weather, the mood of the country and especially the economy.
Not so in the vineyards of Europe, where the winemakers are now breaking open some of the best bottles in their cellars to celebrate remarkable vintages. From Bordeaux to Champagne and from Alsace to Wachau, delighted vignerons are hailing 2009 as the best year of the Noughties and some veterans are saying that it is the best in living memory.

Rising Stars from Spain

‘The Rising Stars of 2009’ was the title given by Wines of Spain to a tasting in  Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.

A small number if producers seeking distribution in Ireland came to meet the trade but the main section comprised Spanish wines already on the market presented by their distributors.
