Elephant and Castle takes wings

This Christmas sees the opening of the second Elephant & Castle restaurant , located on the corner of Rathmines Road and Castlewood Avenue. The white facade fro

m Temple Bar has been replicated, bringing new life to this previously quiet corner of Rathmines village.
The 110 seater restaurant is spacious and bright, with large windows looking out onto Rathmines.
Early 2019 will see a further expansion, when Elephant & Castle will  opan a restaurant in Monkstown Village.
The Irish 'Elephant and Castle;' restaurants are operated by the Press Up Group.
 
 
 

Tourism motors on

New CSO figures show a 7.3% growth in spend by overseas visitors and 11% growth in holiday visitors for January-September 2018

 Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s CSO figures are very strong, confirming that revenue from overseas visitors to Ireland grew by more than +7% during January-September 2018, approximately €270 million for the Irish economy compared with the first nine months in 2017. Total overseas arrivals grew by almost +7%. Within the total number of overseas visitors to Ireland, holiday visitors grew by +11% – that’s around 400,000 additional holiday visitors.

Achievement Award to Harry McArdle, founder and chairman of Height for Hire, a family owned company that has become the largest privately-owned mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) rental company in the UK and Ireland. Today, Height for Hire has over 2,000 machines in its fleet and 36 depots across Ireland, the UK, Hungary and Slovakia.
 Organized by the Drogheda & District Chamber, the evening was the social highlight of the year for the business community in the Greater Drogheda region.  A packed audience of over three hundred local business people and dignitaries were present to hear the winners announced in fourteen different categories, with Awards going to new and well-established businesses alike.
 
 
 

Building starts on budget hotel

Fitzwilliam Real Estate Properties has lodged a commencement notice in respect of a €55 million hotel and retail development at the junction of Liffey Street and Middle Abbey Street in Dublin 1.
The company will soon begin construction on the 310-room hotel. When completed in mid-2020, the hotel will be operated by budget brand Motel One in its first venture into the Irish market. Motel One operates 66 hotels with more than 18,400 bedrooms across Europe.
 Fitzwilliam has recently secured planning permission for a hotel with restaurant, bar and 257 bedrooms. The development will involve the demolition of several buildings and the replacement of the top three floors of Arnotts’ car park with hotel rooms.

Key grows profits

Dublin-based accommodation group The Key Collections has seen its profits grow by 33pc to €1.2m in 2017.
Revenues at the company increased by more than 22pc to €22.5m during the period, according to a statement.
During the year, the company signed a long-term management contract for the 35-bedroom Camden Hotel, which it said was "immediately revenue-enhancing".
Established in 2012, by Nina Gillett and Sheila O'Riordan, The Key Collections today employs over 300 people .
