Chef pay up but below average

Chef pay rates are again going up but they are still well short of the average industrial wage, according to Excel Recruitment’s 2018 Salary Survey.
 Chef pay rates are again going up but 75% of all chefs are still falling short of the average industrial wage of €36,000 per annum. According to Excel Recruitment’s 2018 Salary Survey, a Chef de Partie can expect an average of €30,000 a year, while a Junior Sous Chef takes home €35,000. On the higher end of the scale, a Hotel Head Chef earns between €65,000- €70,000 + bonus while an Executive Chef in a Hotel can take home anything between €75,000- €82,000.

Iveagh Garden Hotel opens

The first of a series of new Dublin hotels has opened on Harcourt Street.

The Iveagh Garden Hotel, developed at a cost of €40 million targets 
'the professional sector'. Accommodation ranges from deluxe doubles to premium suites with balconies overlooking  Iveagh Gardens. Room-only rates range from €159-€299 per night.
The hotel at 72-74 Harcourt Street, is set behind a restored Georgian facade and designed by JDDG (John Duffy Design Group).
It claims to be "the first and only hotel in Europe" with its unique energy system, harvesting natural energy from the River Swan, which it says flows 50m underground, "acting as an energy reserve for cooling and heating the hotel without burning fuel".

Dublin Gastronomy Symposium

Dr. Máirtín Mac Con Iomaire,Lecturer in Culinary Arts and Chair of Dublin Gastronomy Symposium has announced that the registration for the Dublin Gastronomy Symposium

 2018 in now open. The event takes place in the Dublin Institute of Technology, Cathal Brugha  St., Dublin, on the 29th and 30th May and the theme is ‘Food and Power’. More than  50 speakers will papers around the theme, and the international array of speakers have chosen disparate elements of the theme to debate and discuss. Papers are currently being reviewed and edited and will be posted on the DGS website in the coming weeks.
