ITAA Backs Cork

The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) welcome the range of new routes serving Cork Airport in 2015/16.  Already this year Flybe launched their new Cork/Cardiff route. In 2016 CityJet will open their Cork/London City route, Aer Lingus will begin a new Cork/Dusseldorf route and Norwegian Airlines will launch their hotly anticipated Barcelona/Cork/Boston route.
Pat Dawson, CEO of the ITAA said, “We’re delighted to see the expansion of routes through Cork Airport and we have no doubt that they will be a great success. The ITAA will be collaborating with Cork Airport over the coming months to promote these routes and ensure that the new opportunities they present are understood and utilised by Irish consumers.”

Temple Bar Hotel Sale

The Paramount Hotel and Turks Head in Dublin’s Temple Bar area is to be sold as a going concern following the resolution of a dispute between owner David Cullen and Nama.
Nama originally secured a summary judgment of €29 million against Cullen after claiming that he transferred more than 40 properties including the hotel and bar to his wife Mary to place them beyond the reach of the Bank of Ireland. The issue was eventually resolved.
Paul Collins of CBRE is quoting in excess of €15 million for the well-located hotel and bar on Parliament Street which has 66 bedrooms and a thriving bar and restaurant business.

Dempsey Joins Staycity

Patrick Dempsey, former managing director of Whitbread Hotels & Restaurants, is to become a non-executive director of Dublin-based serviced apartment operator Staycity.

Dempsey joins Staycity at a time of significant growth for the company. Its current estate of apartments and aparthotels stands at 1,000 across eight European cities, but an active development pipeline will see this number rise to 1,800 by the end of 2016, with a further 1,500 underway.
Staycity intends to expand to some 10,000 apartments across Europe by 2020.

Clontarf Castle Profit

Newly-filed accounts for the four-star Clontarf Castle hotel show that it reported a gross profit of just over €9m in the 14 months to the end of last December.
That compares with a €7.2m gross profit in the previous 12-month period.
The latest accounts show that it made a €2.8m operating profit in the latest period, and €2.1m after tax.
The accounts also show that the company behind the hotel has continued to cut its debt. Its net debt at the end of October 2013 was €9.6m. But this had fallen to €8.9m by the end of last December.
