Galway Named ‘Ultimate Festive Escape’
Galway has been voted Ireland’s ultimate festive escape, with 55% of respondents choosing its famous Christmas Market, fairy lights and romantic walks by the Corrib as the perfect seasonal city break. A new national survey by Leonardo Hotels reveals that 88% of Irish people plan to visit a Christmas market this year, and more than half (55%) are treating themselves to a city break in Ireland this festive season.
When asked which city throws the best festive party, Galway came out on top again with 46% of the vote for its lively trad sessions in hotel bars, while Dublin followed with 38% for glamorous nights out and late-night singalongs on Grafton Street.
Planning habits show that 50% of people start thinking about their Christmas getaway months in advance, while 26% wait until early December.
Respondents said the perfect Christmas city break means a stylish hotel stay with festive treats (36%), cosy pubs and live music (23%) and plenty of Christmas shopping and markets (36%). Romantic escapes were high on the wish list, with Galway topping the charts (50%) for couples looking for festive magic, followed by Dublin (23%) and Belfast (15%).
