France Names Food Champions

The inaugural French Champion Awards took place at French Food Days Ireland, the one-day trade event dedicated to bringing the taste of France to Ireland.

Organised by Business France, the French governmental trade agency, the French Champion Awards were created to recognise the contribution of the Irish trade, who plays a key role in raising the profile of French produce on the Irish market, across four categories. Businesses were nominated and voted for by a panel of Irish trade professionals with two finalists selected in each category.

Elodie Morin-Rager, Director of Business France Ireland, was joined by Marianne Barkan-Cowdy, Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy in Ireland, and Pauline Gauthier, Head of Food & Drink at Business France UK & Ireland, to present the awards.

The "Best Restaurant for France" award went to Dax Restaurant, which was shortlisted alongside Piglet Wine Bar. "Best Importer for France" was La Rousse Foods and the "Best Supermarket for France" was Donnybrook Fair. The "Best Delicatessen for France" award went to Iciar.

The awards kicked off French Food Days organised by Business France. This year saw over 50 Irish food industry professionals sign up to meet the nine exhibitors keen to expand their presence in Ireland. This year’s event was supported by Adec, the agency in charge of promoting the development of Corsican companies internationally.
