‘Doggy Travel Guide’
Anthony Walsh and Lucy Costigan have published Ivan’s Travels Through Dog-Friendly Ireland: Guide to Eateries, Pubs, Accommodation, Shops, Visitor and Nature Attractions.
The guide takes readers on a journey across Ireland, revealing the best dog-friendly places and hidden gems for adventures.
Inspired by Ivan, a spirited Border Collie rescued from the streets of Waterford by Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART), “Ivan’s Travels” describes how the authors and Ivan explore dog-friendly cafés, pubs, accommodations, shops and natural attractions throughout all 32 counties. The authors hope that this will result in less instances of dogs left in hot cars.
The guide includes personal stories, practical tips for dog owners, and highlights how Ireland’s growing dog-friendly culture has flourished since the 2017 Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) regulation update, which allows dogs in food premises under certain conditions and has inspired countless Irish businesses to embrace pet-friendly hospitality.
“We discovered during our travels that many Irish people see dogs as beloved family members. Our book celebrates that bond, and we’re excited to share these stories and practical tips to help dog lovers and businesses create even better experiences,” said Lucy Costigan.
The book not only serves as a comprehensive travel guide but also aims to give back to the community, with 40% of royalties from book purchases donated to four Irish dog charities supporting rescue and therapy initiatives.
“Ivan’s boundless curiosity and infectious joy have been our greatest inspiration, teaching us that life’s adventures are richer when shared with a loyal dog companion by your side,” said Anthony Walsh. “Through this book, we hope to inspire others to embark on their own dog-friendly adventures and uncover the beauty of Ireland, all while supporting vital dog charities and fostering a more welcoming world for dogs and their humans alike.”
