Cork Plans Food Future
As the streets of Cork come alive with local flavours and culinary creativity for Cork on a Fork Festival, the city is also planning a bold new recipe for the future of food.
The Cork Food Policy Council began its journey developing a Sustainable and Healthy Food Strategy for Cork at last year’s festival—a long-term plan to make the city’s food system fairer, healthier and more resilient in the face of global and local challenges.
The CFPC is now calling on residents, businesses and community groups to get involved and join a workshop on Sunday, August 17, at the Talks and Tastings Stage on Emmet Place at 11.30am.
Denise Cahill, Healthy Cities Coordinator who will facilitate the workshop, said: "We want Cork to lead the way in showing how a city can unite around food that is healthy, sustainable and fair for everyone."
Founded in 2013, the CFPC is a collaboration between community groups, farmers, educators, health professionals, retailers, hospitality leaders and Cork’s local authorities. Their shared goal is to ensure everyone in Cork has access to good food while tackling urgent issues such as food poverty, climate change and food security.
