Ardal Tours Our Islands
Millions of households across Britain are tuning in to a new series about the islands off Ireland’s coastline. The Emerald Isles, presented by actor and comedian Ardal O’Hanlon and airing weekly on BBC Two, was co-produced by Tourism Ireland.
The three-part series, produced by One Tribe TV and Boulder Creek International, features footage of Ireland’s landscapes, along with stories of island communities, from Rathlin Island off the north coast of County Antrim to Cape Clear Island off the south-west coast of County Cork. Ardal takes viewers on a journey unearthing the history, observing the wildlife, and meeting the islanders trying to live in harmony with their environment.
Episode one featured the islands of Rathlin, Tory, and Arranmore. In episode two, viewers learned more about the stories of the Aran Islands, Great Blasket Island, Valentia, and Skellig Michael. Episode three will see Ardal finishing his adventure on some of Cork’s islands – including Garnish, Sherkin, and Cape Clear.
Judith Cassidy, Tourism Ireland’s Acting Head of Great Britain, said:
“With Ardal O’Hanlon’s unique storytelling, the series is showcasing the magic and spectacular beauty of our islands to millions of households in Britain – inspiring them to start planning their own visit.”
