Adare Tees Off for Ryder
Moments after Shane Lowry sank the decisive putt to retain the Ryder Cup for Europe at Bethpage Black in New York, the village of Adare, Co. Limerick, launched its build-up to the 2027 event, which will mark the 100th anniversary of golf’s greatest international competition.
Following Europe’s victory, a golden putter was presented to Adare Manor in New York to symbolise the official handover to the next hosts. A giant golf ball overlooks the River Shannon from the courtyard of King John's Castle in Limerick city, and Adare is festive with every shop front festooned as it prepares to welcome golfing fans from around the world.
Construction work is well underway on a new stretch of roadway, which will bypass Adare, with assurances that the €150 million project will be completed in time for the Ryder Cup.
With local hotels already fully booked, the official property rental programme of the Ryder Cup encourages local residents to "make your home part of golf history by letting your property". There are already properties on offer in Limerick, Clare, Galway, Tipperary and Offaly.
Golf Ireland and Tourism Ireland are leveraging the sporting spotlight to showcase championship courses to attract golfers around the world to choose Ireland for their next golf holiday. It is also an opportunity to shine a spotlight on Co. Limerick and the Wild Atlantic Way.
Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets and Partnerships, Siobhán McManamy, said:
"This is a very special week for Ireland as we proudly accept the handover of the Ryder Cup for 2027. The stunning setting of one of our most beautiful manor house hotels, together with the passion of the fans, makes Adare Manor a truly superb venue to showcase our golf and Ireland."
Tourism Ireland, together with Fáilte Ireland, Limerick City and County Council and Adare Manor, hosted an exhibition space in the fan village at Bethpage Black.
