The internationally known Abbey Tavern public house and music venue in Howth is on the market through licensed property specialists Bagnall Doyle MacMahon.
The historic premises is one of the country’s oldest public houses, with a pub having traded on the same site since the 16th century. The property is being sold by Richard Tobin, the fourth generation of his family to have run the business since 1944. Offers in excess of €1,750,000 are being sought.
The pub has been popular with tourists, day trippers and locals in the affluent seaside suburb for generations. The large music area has capacity for around 220 people, with theatre-style seating.
The pub itself is located on Abbey Street, next to the ruins of Howth Abbey. It is well known for its cut stone walls, flagstone floors and blazing turf fires, as well as for hosting popular traditional Irish entertainment.
The property, which is part two-storey/part three-storey, extends to about 778 square metres (8,374sqft) and briefly comprises interconnecting traditional stone-clad buildings which contain a traditional bar, a restaurant and the entertainment venue.
