
€4.5M for Heritage Projects
A total of 95 heritage projects across the country in need of essential repair and conservation works will benefit from funding of €4.5 million.
The funding, which is being provided under the Government's Historic Structures Fund, is aimed at historic buildings including castles, churches, mills, bridges, shopfronts and thatch structures.
Among the projects to receive funding is Birr Castle in Co Offaly. It will receive €200,000 for the conservation and repair of the wrought iron suspension footbridge within the grounds of the castle demesne to bring it back into use.
Other projects awarded funding of €200,000 include St Macartan's Cathedral in Monaghan, Red Stables Building in St Anne's Park in Dublin and the former Mansion House at Mercy University Hospital in Cork. Belvedere House in Mullingar will also receive funding of more than €190,000 for conservation work.
