Ireland for Lord Mayor's Show

Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced Ireland’s first ever participation in The Lord Mayor’s Show in London. The historic pageant, which takes place on Saturday 14 November, celebrates its 800th anniversary this year. Half a million people will line the streets of central London to cheer on the parade and it will be watched on national television by millions more.

For the first time ever, Ireland will be represented in the parade. Tourism Ireland has invited Lord Mayors and Mayors from across the island of Ireland to participate, further cementing the relationship between Ireland and the UK and showcasing the island of Ireland in our largest tourism market.
Also for the first time ever, the ceremonial coach of Dublin’s Lord Mayor will leave Dublin and will be showcased in the ancient London pageant. The splendid, highly decorated carriage was built in 1791 and is a feature of the annual St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Dublin and other civic celebrations.

The Irish Sports Council this week confirmed to Limerick City and County Council that the Trail has been added to the National Trails Scheme under the jurisdiction of the Local Authority.
The Local Authority also has signed a licence agreement with CIE to operate the 41-kilometre Greenway, which runs along the old Limerick to Tralee railway line to the Kerry County boundary at Kilmorna via Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West and Rathkeale.
The Great Southern Trail was previously managed and maintained by the Great Southern Trail Limited (GST), and supported and facilitated by Limerick City and County Council, West Limerick Resources, CIE and Newcastle West ARA.
The news has been welcomed by Cllr. Liam Galvin, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, who is pictured with members of the local community in Newcastle West on Saturday to celebrate 25 years of achievement by local community development groups in managing the Greenway.

Ski Bar at Carton

Carton House has launched an  Aprés Ski bar for the Christmas party season.  A winter bar complete with fake furs, heaters, fairy lights and spiced apple cider, the Aprés ski bar is the ‘coolest’ location for groups, residents, family and friends to celebrate a festive get-together or an alpine experience.
Situated in the walled courtyard of the  hotel, The Arch has been transformed into a snow-topped bar with twinkling lights and a warming glow. The pop-up Aprés Ski bar offers a hideaway for the festive season in the heart of Kildare.
Monica O’Byrne, Director of Sales and Marketing at Carton House, says:
“We are delighted to celebrate the opening of our Aprés Ski bar for the festive season. Carton House is unique in that we are nestled in acres of woodland - we may not be located beside snowy slopes but we have created an off-piste magical winter bar that is warm, cosy and decorated with all the winter trimmings… the next best thing! Whether you’re looking to book exclusively for a corporate party or simply fancy a night with friends reliving your last ski holiday, our Aprés Ski bar is a festive experience not to be missed.”
