The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are helping to raise the profile of the We
st of Ireland as a tourism destination during their current visit.
During their time here, the royal couple will enjoy our wonderful scenery, culture and hospitality. Their programme includes a celebration of Irish crafts, music and dance at NUI Galway and a visit to the Burren. They will also visit the grave of WB Yeats at Drumcliffe and will spend time at the Sligo Races, before continuing to Northern Ireland, where they will view the gardens at Mount Stewart.
A large media contingent has travelled to Ireland with the royal couple to cover the visit, bringing the story to millions of people in Britain and elsewhere around the world.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “With Ireland very much in the news spotlight again this week during the visit by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, Tourism Ireland will take every opportunity to maximise the tourism benefits of the royal visit. Journalists from Great Britain, and elsewhere, are in Ireland to cover details of the visit, beaming images of the island of Ireland, including some of our major tourist attractions like the Burren and Mount Stewart, directly into the homes of millions of potential visitors everywhere. We are working to exploit this unique opportunity to highlight Ireland as a wonderful holiday destination, not only in Great Britain, but in other countries around the world.
Fáilte Ireland was among the organisations presenting to his Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, at NUI Gal
Fáilte Ireland CEO Shaun Quinn (pictured with the Prince) later briefed the Duchess of Cornwall as she sampled typical examples of local produce from along the Wild Atlantic Way at a special event at The House Hotel, Galway designed to highlight the close ties between Ireland and the UK’s tourism and food & drink sectors.

The coverage from this royal visit will provide a fantastic boost to the appeal of the Wild Atlantic Way in Britain - our largest overseas market. This event was a unique opportunity for HRH to not only experience Ireland’s breath-taking coastline but to literally get a taste for some of the sights, sounds and flavours the Wild Atlantic Way has to offer.
“British visitor numbers have grown by 14% this year already and we are confident that the exposure garnered by this visit will see these tourism figures continue to climb throughout the year.”

Head Cocktail Bartender at The House Hotel, Aileen Cunningham also prepared ‘The Duchess’ cocktail which was created especially for the Duchess’s visit. The cocktail consists of Irish Dingle Gin, Elderflower Liquer, Mumm Champagne, with a light dusting of powered lemon, freshly frozen cubes of Rosemary, Orange, Lemon & Lime zest.
The Prince of Wales has been exploring the rare flowers of the Burren in the company of local farmers, schoolchildren, conservation staff and volunteers. During the visit, the Prince learned about the Burren Farming for Conservation Programme (FCP), an award-winning Agri-environment programme which is funded by the Dept. of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and by the Dept. of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The Prince was also introduced to the work of the Burrenbeo Trust, a local charity which co-ordinates a number of community-led education and conservation initiatives.
