Clare Fests Go Green

Eleven community festival and event organisers have been selected to participate in an innovative training programme inspired by the success of the Green Fleadh, an environmental initiative rolled out to 450,000 visitors during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The selection of festivals follows a series of introductory training sessions for event organisers on how to minimise the environmental impact of such events by reducing waste, carbon emissions, and water and energy use.

The selected festivals are the Kilmurry Harvest Festival, Clare Garden Festival, Clarecastle Regatta & Clarecastle Tidy Towns, Great Irish Garden, Doolin Festivals, Bodyke Festival, Kilrush Traditional Music Festival, Mountshannon Arts Festival, Fleadh Cheoil An Chláir, Lissycasey Music Festival and Festival of Finn.

O'Callaghan to make €100m hotel investment

O’Callaghan Hotels, the Irish-owned family-run hotel group, has announced details of a major €100 million investment programme that is underway at its four star hotel

The group’s four star Dublin hotels – The Alexander, The Davenport and The Stephen’s Green – are being completely transformed at a cost of over €30m to reposition them amongst the capital’s best hotels. The new style of O’Callaghan Hotel will be a deluxe offering, A further significant investment is being made on The Eliott Hotel in Gibraltar while the group recently opened a new-build luxury 155-room hotel, Tamburlaine, in Cambridge.

Six for Eurotoques Final

Richard Corrigan has been announced as the guest judge for the Euro-Toques Ireland Young Chef of the Year competition.

The six finalists are:

Daniel Guerin (24), chef de partie at Campagne, Kilkenny; Conor Halpenny (23), chef de partie at Chapter One, Dublin; Jack Lenards (21), chef de partie at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, Dublin; Jason Nolan (22) chef de partie at Aghadoe Heights Hotel and Spa, Killarney; Bronagh Rogers (24) chef de partie at Viewmount House and Evan O’Ceallaigh (21) chef de partie at Ardilaun Hotel, Galway. They will progress to the final judging session in Dublin next month.

Prior to that, they will be flown to Italy, to have lunch at Da Vittorio, a restaurant in Bergamo which has three Michelin stars. They will also spend a day meeting producers whose food will be used in the final of the competition.

Sector survives Ophelia

Hurricane Ophelia forced Bear Market Coffee to postpone the official opening of its fourth store.on Dublin’s Pembroke Street yesteday, but otherwise the hospitality industry appears to have survived the storm with little damage.
