London-based Caprice Holdings of a branch of The Ivy Collection of restaurants, has agreed a rent of €500,000 per year for the primary retail area of 743sq m (8,000sq ft) on the ground floor a new office block One Molesworth St, Dublin.

The restaurant will have a distinctive street frontage on to Dawson Street featuring vertical glass fins, solid bronze and an impressive bronze anodised brise soleil. The new business will look directly across the street at another UK restaurant group, Marco Pierre White’s Steakhouse & Grill.

 

Barclays Bank will move its EU hub to the upper floors of the building.

 

 

The planned move by Barclays to One Molesworth Street may well coincide with the opening by the 

 

Tourism Ireland ceo Niall Gibbons said:

 

“As anticipated, the currency challenge for Irish tourism is very real and the drop in British visitor numbers (-6.8%) for the January to May period reflects that. The decline in the value of sterling has made holidays and short breaks here more expensive for British visitors; and economic uncertainty is undoubtedly making British travellers more cautious about their discretionary spending. This is impacting on travel to Ireland. Therefore, competitiveness and the value for money message are more important than ever in Britain right now. Tourism Ireland is placing a greater focus on our ‘culturally curious’ audience, who are less impacted by currency fluctuations. We are also undertaking an expanded partnership programme with airlines, ferry operators and tour operators, communicating a strong price-led message.  Commenting on overall figures  Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said:

Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Golf Course has opened its newly revamped Abbey Cinema Theatre, with a library of 50 classic movies from 

'Casablanca' to 'Gone With the Wind'. There are two screenings daily, a matinee at 3pm and an evening screening at 10pm. The 1930’s inspired décor gives a Hollywood Glamour look and feel to the boutique 15 seater theatre, with oversized velvet chairs, velour textured walls and gold guilt edge cornicing. The Abbey Cinema Theatre is primarily for hotel guests, but can also be hired for private screenings and for corporate video launches.  

 

Travel research company STR has released a new forecast stating that the average daily rate of Dublin hotel rooms will rise to just under €150 by 2021, with occupancy rates exceeding 85%.

 In May, Dublin's average daily room rate was just under €125 with an occupancy of approximately 80%. The former figure was lower than other European cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona and London, while the latter figure was considerably higher than the European average of 67.7%.

Dublin's revenue per room was up 7% on May of 2016, with occupancy in Ireland as a whole for the first five months of 2017 also being above the European average at 73.2%.

STR noted that during the period January to May 2017, occupancy rates in Dublin were in excess of 90% for 38 days and occupancy dropped below 70% on 35 occasions. Both of these figures surpassed the statistics for the same period in 2016.
