Pegasus moves to the K Club

A three-part sculpture of Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology, has been moved from Citywest in Dublin to the K Club.

The life-size bronze horses mounted on steel columns were a familiar sight to tens of thousands of motorists on the M7 as they passed the Independent Newspapers printing plant.

Pegasus, made by the late sculptor Conor Fallon 15 years ago, was commissioned by Sir Anthony O’Reilly, who was then a major shareholder in Independent News & Media.

It is believed it was bought by the K Club’s owner, Michael Smurfit, in a private transaction.

DAA to Upgrade T1

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has confirmed plans to spend €10 million on upgrading the arrivals hall in Terminal 1.

DAA said the renovations will include new flooring, a replacement ceiling, the removal of desks currently situated in some window areas to allow natural light in, and a new look to the terminal’s facade.

Once completed, all restaurants in the terminal will be located in one area, as will all information services.

More than 400 million passengers have passed through the terminal since it first opened 44 years ago.

Ireland on Italian Metros

Tourism Ireland’s latest promotion is under way in Italy with billboard ads highlighting Ireland in the metro stations of Milan and Brescia, reaching an estimated 113 million commuters.

Tourism Ireland has once again teamed up with eDreams, one of Italy’s top online travel agents, in a joint campaign to promote Ireland to affluent commuters, with attractive offers encouraging them to book their Irish holiday on eDreams, a popular booking platform in Italy. The poster ad shows a stunning image of the Cliffs of Moher and features an attractive offer for a short break – reminding Italians why they should put Ireland on their holiday wish-list for 2016.

As well as the metro ads, the campaign is also highlighting holidays in Ireland through email marketing to hundreds of thousands of travellers throughout Italy on the eDreams database, as well as online advertising on the eDreams site.

In 2015, we welcomed about 321,000 Italian visitors to Ireland, up +25% on 2014.

Green to manage Amaris development

Investment and hospitality Group, Amaris Hospitality, has appointed Joe Green as Head of Development for the Group.

He will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new development and acquisition opportunities for Amaris Hospitality across all its key markets, with a particular focus on growing the Jurys Inn hotel property portfolio in key strategic locations.

He will also oversee the development of a comprehensive strategy to optimise the extensive Amaris Hospitality property portfolio, which currently includes 74 hotels trading under leading brands such as Jurys Inn, Mercure, MGallery, Ibis Styles, DoubleTree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn.

Louis Latour dies

Louis Latour, who led the modernisation of Burgundy wine business Maison Louis Latour during 40 years in charge of the company, has died at the age of 83.

Born in 1932, Latour built the business into a hugely successful négociant and producer, taking charge of the company in 1958 and remaining in post until he was succeeded by his son, Louis-Fabrice Latour, in 1999.

Innovations included the company’s move into the Ardèche to produce Chardonnay in 1979, and a similar project to make Pinot Noir at Domaine de Valmoissine, in the Var, in 1989.
