Tourist Boats Swamped in Killarney

Twelve tourists and the skipper of an excursion boat were rescued from a lake in Killarney after a licensed passenger vessel became swamped by waves in a freak incident on 1st September, the 'Irish Examiner' reports to-day..

And to add to the distress of the tourists, a second passenger boat on its way to rescue them also became submerged.

They were finally brought to the safety of the shore by a third boat.

The Marine Casualty Investigation Board (MCIB) is conducting an investigation.

The tourists, all wearing life jackets, were reportedly in the water for up to 20 minutes.

They had set out on a traditional tour in the unique Killarney Gap boats which are big for their class.

Nearly 70 Irish tourism businesses from across the country this week attended the first of Fáilte Ireland’s autumn sales workshops in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, pitchin

g their businesses to a group of 20 top British Coach & Group Operators.

This workshop, which was organised by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, is the first in a series of three sales workshops focusing on attracting more overseas visitors from key markets including the UK and Canadian markets. The workshops provide a cost effective and time effective business opportunity for the Irish tourism businesses to meet buyers and engage in one-to-one sales meetings to either make initial contact or maintain already established business relationships.

€4m tag on Lynam's Hotel

Lynam's Hotel on Dublin's O'Connell Streetis being offered by CBRE with a guide price in excess of €4m.

The four-storey hotel, which is currently not trading, extends to 1,280 square metres, has 42-bedrooms and a ground floor cafe/restaurant.

Star Food Speakers for Galway

Galway's 'Food On The Edge', a two-day symposium about the future of food, has launched its schedule of speakers.

The event, which takes place on 24 October, will discuss topics such as 'The Future of Irish Food' and will have talks from over 50 speakers. Massimo Bottura, whose restaurant Osteria Francescana was recently crowned number one in 'The World's 50 Best Restaurants: will speak on 'Cooking: A Call To Action'.

Christian Puglisi, co-owner of Copenhagen's Relae and who is to open a farm-culinary school-think tank hybrid, willaddress 'Farm of Ideas, Integrating Cooking and Farming', while there will also be a talk on 'Food & Beer - Exploring the Possibilities' by New York's Daniel Burns.
