Kildare's 4-star Killashee Hotel and Spa has reported a net profit of  €6.9 million for the year ending December 2015.

The newly filed accounts from the hotel's operator, Craigfort Taverns Ltd, show that there was an operating profit of €1.13 million and that its wage bill decreased by around €260,000 to €4.5 million. Fora.ie reports that the hotel's net profit was helped by an adjustment to the the book land value and its surrounding area.

 

The 141-bedroom hotel had been bought by Midwest Holding and Brehon Capital Partners, the latter now trading as Tetrarch Capital, for €13 million in 2014. 

 

The small Dublin restaurant Heron and Grey was the surprise recipient of a Michelin Gold Medal yesterday.

Located in the Blackrock Market and opened only in December 2015, the restaurant is operatred by Damien Grey and Andrew Heron.

No Irish restaurants were deleted this year. Patrick Guilbaud's restaurant retained its two  stars, while Chapter One, L'Ecrivain and The Greenhouse, Aniar and Loam in Galway , Loam , Kilkenny's Campagne and Lady Helen restaurant in Mount Juliet retained their single stars.

In Belfast, two restaurants — Eipic and Ox — retained their Michelin star status.

Five other restaurants in Dublin were awarded first time Bib Gourmand, which recognises exceptional food at more affordable prices. They are Camden Street eatery Delahunt, The Pigeon House in Clontarf, Baggot Street's Etto, and the Pig's Ear on Nassau Street. 

 

Tourism Ireland, together with thirteen tourism companies f,, is preparing to take part in a week-long sales mission to Australia and New Zealand next month – to grow tourism 

from both markets. The organisation held a briefing  in Dublin, for the tourism companies who will participate in the upcoming sales mission.

 The island of Ireland has seen very good growth in visitors from Australia and New Zealand over the past few years, with a record 200,000+ people visiting in 2015.

 The sales mission – which takes place 14-21 November – will target some 300 influential travel agents, tour operators, airlines and travel journalists in the key cities of Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
