new initiatives to stimulate regional dispersion and seasonal extension along the Wild Atlantic Way.

The media will board a ‘Sligo Food Train’ from Connolly Station to Sligo, where passengers will get to sample ‘Sligo Food’ and also receive information on the Sligo Food Trail as they make their journey to the Wild Atlantic Way. Fáilte Ireland will also give a brief talk on the Wild Atlantic Way to the media en-route as the train progresses towards Sligo.

Dublin-China flight prospects improve

Dublin Airport has advanced negotiations to establish a direct service between Ireland and China.

DAA chief executive Kevin Toland met the administrator of the Civil Aviation Authority of China, Feng Zhenglin, as well as China's ambassador to Ireland, Yue Xiaoyong, to discuss the possibility of a direct route.

The DAA has been working for years on securing an air link between Dublin and China. Momentum for the route has been building over the past year in particular.

Last year, the chief executive of Beijing Airport said Dublin is one of the international cities he wants to connect with.

During the summer, an executive with Hainan Airlines owner HNA, said in Dublin that a route between the two capitals is under serious consideration.

The special theme of the visit was ‘digital detox’ – so the journalists were requested to switch off their mobile devices in order to get away from it all in Ireland’s Ancient East and to truly appreciate their surroundings, while discovering the rich history and heritage of counties Wexford, Carlow, Waterford, Kilkenny and Laois.

Marrewijk, the Netherlands and Martin Schechler, N-News City Magazine, Germany are in Ireland this week to experiencetwo of Ireland’s tourism and local gastronomy destinations - Sligo and Cong, who were runners up in the European Union 2015 EDEN (European Destination of Excellence) Award in the Gastronomy Region competition.

The trip, organised by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, will allow the journalists, who have a combined circulation of over 6 million readers, to enjoy a showcase of the vast selection of seasonal and local produce in Sligo and Cong to see first-hand why Ireland, is becoming increasingly popular as a food destination.

Chinese prepare Irish spreads

A team from the Chinese edition of Condé Nast Traveler has been exploring Kerry and Ireland, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

The journalistic team was here to research two articles, about Dublin and the Wild Atlantic Way, which will reach about 750,000 readers in the print edition and a further 1.2 million on the iPad version of the magazine.

The group spent several days checking out some of the many things to see and do in Dublin, before continuing to the South West, where they enjoyed a full day tour of the Ring of Kerry and visited the Dingle Peninsula.
