Award winning American filmmakers Daniel Klein and Mirra Fine are currently touring Ireland documenting the story of Irish food for the fourth season of their Food Travel

Daniel and Mirra arrived in Ireland last month to present at Fáilte Ireland’s first Food Conference ‘Food Connect’ and, since then have been digging deep into the local food cultures of Ireland.

Starbucks Closure Order

A Starbucks coffee shop at 21 Great Georges St in Waterford was served with a Closure Order on September 27.

It remained shut for more than a week, reopening on October 5, according to the latest report from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

A spokeswoman for Entertainment Enterprises Group, which operates the Starbucks chain in Ireland, said the Waterford closure was a result of contaminated water flowing into the shop.

“The problem was with the main drainage pipes,” she said.

Tuam hotel for sale

Ard Rí House, a 3-star hotel on the outskirts of Tuam, County Galway, has been put on the market with a guide price of €2.5m by Savills Hotel & Leisure estate agents.

The hotel has 51-bedrooms, conference and banqueting suites for hosting weddings and events, as well as food and beverage facilities with its Kiltevna Room Restaurant and Dick Dowling's Bar.

A seminar for parents, teachers and career counsellors on how to help pupils make correct third-level course choices will take place during this year’s GMIT Open Mornings which run at GMIT’s two Galway city campuses on Friday, 14 October and Saturday, 15 October .

Author and education consultant Catherine O’Connor will deliver a free seminar called ‘Cracking the College Code’, in room 1041, Galway campus, from 10am to 11am, on Friday followed by a presentation on GMIT’s new and current programmes by GMIT Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar Michael Hannon and senior academics, which takes place in the same venue (room 1041) from 11.15am to 12.30pm.

Several hundred pupils from schools in the west and around Ireland are expected to attend the two Open Mornings which run from 9.30am to 1.30pm Friday and 10am to 12.30pm Saturday. Shuttle buses will operate between the Dublin Road and the Centre for Creative Arts and Media (CCAM) campuses on both days.

Circus marks Conrad opening

Acrobats, stilt walkers and musicians marked the opening of the refurbished Conrad Hotel on Earlsfort Terrace last night (Wednesday).

Guests walked a green carpet to the remodelled lobby where they were greeteed by general manager Martin mangan and his team.

The €13m. refurbishment programme has been heavily influenced by Dublin’s rich literary culture and local heritage.

The renovation programme featured a new design for all 192 guest bedrooms and suites, a full makeover of the Presidential Suite, the opening of a new, all-day brasserie together with a new ground floor lounge and bar.

Martin Mangan said, “There is a significant contrast between the old and the new-look Conrad Dublin and every guest room and suite will have its own story to tell. Inspiration comes from all quarters – sights and sounds, people and places – our vision was to create a storyboard that celebrates Dublin and we hope that it will, in its own way, pass on to our guests.
