Bild in Donegal

More than two million Germans will soon be reading all about Donegal, following this week’s visit by a journalist from one of Germany’s most popular tabloid newspapers, Bild.

german151 Invited here by Tourism Ireland in Frankfurt, journalist Oliver Abraham is busy checking out some of the many things to see and do on a holiday in this part of Ireland – so that he can inspire his readers around Germany to put Donegal on their holiday ‘wish list’ for 2015. His itinerary – designed by Fáilte Ireland – includes a tour of the castles and gardens at Glenveagh, as well as a guided cliff walk at Slieve League. He also enjoyed a tour, and overnight stay, at Castle Leslie in Co Monaghan.

Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said: “Last year was a record year for Irish tourism from Germany – when we welcomed an estimated 538,000 German visitors, an increase of +15% on 2013. Tourism Ireland is rolling out an extensive programme of promotional activity in 2015 – to keep the momentum going and build on that growth. Inviting influential journalists to come and experience what’s on offer here at first-hand is a key element of our publicity and PR programme. These visits are a really effective way for us to spread the good news about Donegal and Ireland through the media in Germany, encouraging more people to come here and experience the destination for themselves.”
