Bewleys 'Great Taste' Award

Bewleys AwardBewley’s Fairtrade Harmony Blend has scooped three Gold Stars in the Great Taste Awards and is the only espresso blend from the UK and Ireland to achieve this highest accolade at this year’s awards.

Fairtrade Harmony Blend is a 'lively espresso with hints of spices and orange chocolate' and hails from Bewley’s fair-trade farming co-operatives in Central and South America. Its success, in a competitive section where more than 20 espressos were recognised, illustrates that real quality coffee is readily available for the foodservice market in Ireland. Bewley’s Special Reserve signature espresso was also awarded one gold star in the espresso category.

Noel-John McLoughlin, Marketing Manager, Bewley’s says, 'We go to great lengths to source the finest grade Arabica beans for our espresso coffee, so that our customers can enjoy great coffee every time.  The simple fact is that people will not accept bad coffee any more and if they have a choice they will not visit premises that serve bad coffee.

Bewley’s is the largest provider of tea, coffee and hot beverage solutions to the foodservice industry in Ireland, servicing more than 4000 outlets around the country. Many of the americanos, cappuccinos, espressos and lattes consumed each day originate as Fairtrade Harmony and Special Reserve coffee beans, so it is very exciting for us to be able to deliver this calibre of coffee to consumers, and for its quality to be independently recognised'.

The Great Taste Awards, now in their sixteenth year are organised by the Guild of Fine Foods, and are acknowledged as the ultimate benchmark in speciality food and drink. The 2010 Awards have seen more products entered than ever before, with more than  6000 blind-tasted, tested and discussed over an intense, two-month judging period by three separate judging panels, comprising food writers, chefs, deli and farm shop owners, food producers and buyers.

This year, Bewley’s also won eight gold medals for their tea range, making it the most successful hot beverage producer in each of the categories in which it competed.  Among the award winners were Bewley’s Special Blend Fairtrade Tea and Earl Grey Loose Tea, which both received two gold stars. Bewley’s Original Blend Tea, Gold Blend Tea, Irish Afternoon Tea, Decaffeinated Blend Tea and Irish Afternoon Loose Tea all received one gold star each. Bewley’s famous Café Blend coffee was also awarded a gold medal
