Women quitting tech roles says Margot

Ballyfin, Ashford on world list

Ashford Castle and Ballyfin Demesne have been named in a list of the best 100 hotels in the world by itravel magazine, Travel and Leisure.

Ballyfin (pictured) in Co. Laois was ranked 39th on the list, finishing ahead of Co. Mayo's Ashford Castle in 59th place.

In 2016 Ballyfin was named the world's best hotel at the Conde Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards 2016, where it was joined in the top 10 by two other Irish hotels: Waterford Castle was in seventh place and The Lodge at Ashford Castle in ninth.

A survey by Travel and Leisure invited readers to vote for their favourite hotels, cities, hotels, airlines, transportation and more between November of last year and March of this year.

Kells Restaurant for sale

The Forge Restaurant, Kells, Co. Meath is for sale.

It was opened by Pauric and Irene White seventeen years ago and has been a popular local eatery every since.

Pauric says that he is now selling the business due to ill health.

Carton House for sale

Carton House Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, near Maynooth, Co Kildare, goes for sale today on the international market.

Joint selling agents Savills and CBRE are guiding €60 million for the 668 acres for sale, including a newly restored 18th-century Palladian mansion, Carton House, as well as a separate five-star hotel and golf and sports facilities, which have traded since 2006.

The Mallaghan family and the Carton Development Partnership yesterday confirmed that they had “reached consensual agreement with Nama to put Carton House Resort on the market”.

Adare names Heery as gm

Adare Manor has hired Paul Heery (pictured) as its new general manager as the five-star resort enters its final refurbishment phase ahead of its re-opening in October.

He joins Adare Manor from the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland, where he was responsible for all hotel operations, employing around 500 employees.

He has also worked as operations manager at The Connaught Hotel in London and was previously deputy general manager at the five-star Merrion hotel in Dublin.
