350 Pan Am Vets for Foynes

More than 350 former workers and associates of Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) will reunite in Limerick, Ireland, on 12th-15th April 2016 to share their memories and

experiences of what was once the principal and largest international air carrier in the United States.
 Organised by Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum and supported by Fáilte Ireland and the Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau, the event represents the final ever Pan Am World Reunion and is only the second to be hosted in Europe.

US Bands for Limerick

A 280-strong marching band from the University of Missouri will be among the 1,200 musicians taking to the streets of Limerick for the 46th Limerick

International Band Championship from 12 noon on Sunday, 20th March.
 Ireland’s only international band competition, which is run on behalf of Limerick City and County Council by Grooveyard Productions, was launched  by Cllr. Liam Galvin, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick.
 There are four US bands participating, including a 280-strong group from the University of Missouri, who will join 14 other groups from Northern Ireland, Kerry, Limerick, Westmeath, Dublin, Tipperary and Cork as they parade from Pery Square and down O'Connell Street to Arthurs Quay.

We drink to keep warm

Irish people drink tea and coffee for warmth- and to keep the awake, a new survey has shown.

It was conducted for David  Mc  Kernan's Java Republic which has opened a new cafe on Molesworth Street Dublin.

 Commenting on the results of the survey which captured the trends of 270 people across Ireland, MD of Java Republic Grace O’Shaughnessy said,  'We used to be very much a tea drinking nation but our survey of 270 people has shown that many people now drink both tea and coffee and indeed vary their perference depending on the time of day or whether they are at home or not.  Some 62% said they drink both tea and coffee with just a small majority, 60% saying they have a slight preference for coffee.   For those that drink coffee a massive 40% said they choose Americanos as their top pick followed by 23% picking cappuccinos with lattes the third preference at 17%.

Closure Orders for six outlets

Two burrito bars were among six food businesses to be served closure orders last month, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
 
Mama’s Revenge Burrito Hut and Little Ass Burrito, both in Dublin 2, were served closure orders under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.
Also served closure orders were the Orchid Harbour restaurant in Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford; Kelleghan Catering Limited in Tallow, Co Waterford; and Mad Cow Milkshakes, Burgers, & Kebabs in Cabra, Dublin 7.
 

218 Festivals share €1m.

The Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring TD, has t announced that funding of over €1m is to be allocated to 218 national and regional

festivals and events by Fáilte Ireland, under its 2016 Festivals and Events Programme. This investment includes almost €325K for the second phase of funding of large national festivals as well as just under €695K for smaller regional events.  
 
The approved festivals being funded by Fáilte Ireland under the second phase of its National Programme for Festivals and Events include Dublin Theatre Festival - €45,000, Dublin Fringe Festival - €25,000, Kilkenny Arts Festival - €65,00, •Cat Laughs - €30,000, Guinness Cork Jazz Festival - €35,000, Cork Film Festival - €15,000, Kilkenomics - €20,000, Dingle Marathon - €10,000, Rose of Tralee - €30,000, Clifden Arts Festival - €14,000, Galway International Oyster Festival - €35,000
